A self-portrait by Antonio D’Este for Chicago
2/4/24 - Acquisition - Chicago, Art Institute - While the Art Institute of Chicago was devoting an exhibition to Antonio Canova earlier this year [1], a work by his main collaborator and disciple Antonio D’Este joined its rich European collections, donated by Jonathan and Ute Kagan. Remaining in private hands until 2019, this large marble Self-portrait was acquired for the American museum from the London gallery Lowell Libson & Jonny Yarker, which has held it ever since.
