21/3/24 - Marché de l’art - Paris - First and foremost, this is an exhibition not to be missed under any circumstances, even if it is unfortunately only open this Friday, Saturday and then Monday before the sale of the entire collection, scheduled for Tuesday afternoon: rarely has there been a more engaging collection, especially as it comes directly from the heirs of the artistic couple Félix and Marie Bracquemond, and is therefore making its appearance on the market, undoubtedly arousing the interest of art lovers and institutions alike. There will certainly be many of the latter in the room on Tuesday 30 April, and we already have high hopes of mentioning this sale again in the coming days, where the modest pieces are as attractive as the stars, such as the pastel portrait of Manet by Félix Bracquemond (ill. 1), which is offered with a preparatory study, as are several lots in this group. Bracquemond remains a well-known name, though not to the general public, even though the 2005-2006 exhibition organised by Jean-Paul Bouillon (see article) was unfortunately not shown in Paris. It was in fact the Musée national Adrien Dubouché in Limoges, followed by the Deutsches Porzellanmusem in Selb-Plössberg, and finally the Musée départemental de l’Oise in Beauvais, that took the lead in hosting this exhibition, which is of course still an authority, while the Musée du Dessin et de l’Estampe originale in Gravelines, for its part, took an interest as early as 2004 in the celebrated engraved portrait of Edmond de Goncourt (see article) which has become his - by far - most famous effigy.
